The 3rd / 4th Grade Lesson Plan

LESSON ONE - LAWS AND RULES TO KEEP SAFE

  • Concept: Laws are rules that have been made to protect the rights of people and keep them safe.
  • Purpose: To acquaint students with the role of the police officer in the classroom and to review safety practices to protect students from harm to and from school, at school, at home, and in the community.
  • Objective: Students will be able to make safe choices when confronted with situations which may cause them harm.
  • LESSON TWO - DRUGS MAY HELP OR HARM

  • Concept: All drugs can be harmful if misused.
  • Purpose: To help students understand that some drugs when used properly may be helpful but that all drugs may be harmful if misused.
  • Objective: Students will tell ways in which drugs may be helpful or harmful and will discuss what influences may encourage people to misuse them.
  • LESSON THREE - SAYING NO TO DRUG OFFERS

  • Concept: Saying no to drug offers is a way to keep safe.
  • Purpose: To make students aware of drug offers and to teach them how to say no to drug offers from friends and acquaintances.
  • Objective: Students will be able to recognize and say no to drug offers from friends and acquaintances.
  • LESSON FOUR - HANDLING CONFLICTS WITHOUT VIOLENCE

  • Concept: Finding acceptable ways to handle disputes without arguing or fighting helps prevent violence and keeps us safe.
  • Purpose: To help students learn how to handle disputes without resorting to acts of violence.
  • Objective: Students will be able to identify acceptable ways to handle a dispute without resorting to acts of violence.
  • LESSON FIVE - AVOIDING GANGS AND GANG VIOLENCE

  • Concept: Avoiding gang violence involves not getting involved in gang activity.
  • Purpose: To make students aware of gang violence and ways to avoid becoming involved in gang activity.
  • Objective: Students will be able to identify ways how gang activity harms people and damages property.
